Sean Smida Obituary, Cause of Death – Heartbreaking Loss of Toms River Man Passing at 38
Sean Smida, 38, of Toms River, passed away unexpectedly on July 21, 2026, while doing what he loved—fishing at sea. His sudden passing has left family, friends, and the community heartbroken as they remember a devoted husband, loving father, cherished son, brother, uncle, and loyal friend.
Born and raised in Toms River, Sean attended all East Toms River Regional Schools and graduated from Ocean County Vocational Technical School, where he earned his certifications in Collision Repair. He was a talented and dedicated auto body painter who spent most of his career with the Lester Glenn family, becoming Head Painter and Union Shop Steward. He also worked for several years at Grumpy’s Tackle with his closest friends, sharing his lifelong passion for fishing and mentoring countless young anglers.
Above all, Sean was devoted to his family. He shared 16 wonderful years of marriage with his high school sweetheart, Krystal, and was the proud and loving father of Conner and Scarlett, who were the center of his life.
Sean was the beloved son of Don and Nancy; loving brother of Amanda, Jay, and Trevor; cherished brother-in-law of Billy, Ashley, and Morgan; and a devoted uncle to 12 nieces and nephews: Abby, Brooklyn, Josephine, Jaxon, Luke, Charlotte, Dexter, Kylie, Oliver, Ruby, Bode, and Alanna. He will be remembered for his strong work ethic, generous heart, love of family, and lifelong passion for fishing.
A Celebration of Life will be held on August 4, 2026, from 4:00–9:00 pm at Pig and the Parrot Sandbar, 201 Union Lane, Brielle, NJ, with a eulogy at 7:30 pm. Family and friends are invited to come together to honor his memory, share stories, and celebrate the lasting impact he made on all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Sean’s honor to his wife and children, to help ease the financial burden of losing him. Contributions can be made through their GoFundMe site or at Grumpy’s Tackle in Seaside Park, NJ.
Sean Smida will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him. May he rest in eternal peace.
