North Little Rock Toddler Dies in Dog Attack: Family Members Face Criminal Charges
A heartbreaking tragedy has shaken a North Little Rock, Arkansas, community after a two-year-old girl lost her life in a fatal dog attack. On March 28, little Celeste Jackson was brutally attacked outside her family’s residence. The devastating incident has since triggered a law enforcement investigation that led to criminal charges against three of the child’s relatives.
Surveillance Video Reveals Lack of Supervision
According to local authorities, security footage captured on the property played a critical role in piecing together the events leading up to the attack. Reviewing the recordings, detectives discovered that Celeste wandered outside alone at roughly 5:03 p.m. Tragically, no adult came out to check on the toddler until the dog attacked her at around 5:41 p.m., leaving the small child without any adult oversight for nearly 40 minutes. Furthermore, police stated that an analysis of surveillance video from the preceding week revealed a separate occasion where the young girl was left unattended outside for more than 20 minutes.
Three Relatives Arrested and Charged
In the wake of these findings, law enforcement officers arrested three family members on Tuesday. Earnest Jackson, 54, Christina Hart, 41, and Ma’Kayla Jackson, 21, were each formally charged with endangering the welfare of a minor. During initial court proceedings, all three individuals entered pleas of not guilty.
Investigators noted that Ma’Kayla Jackson told police she had left Celeste in the care of someone else before going to sleep. Authorities confirmed that Celeste’s mother was away at work when the fatal attack occurred. A bystander who witnessed part of the event mentioned hearing young children playing shortly before panicked screams echoed from the property, prompting emergency responses.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Status
Following the attack, animal control officers from Pulaski County seized the dog involved, and the animal remains in their custody as the broader investigation unfolds. Meanwhile, the three accused family members are currently held in the county jail, with bail bonds set between $3,000 and $10,000.
As relatives and neighbors grieve the untimely loss of Celeste, legal officials emphasize that the criminal charges remain allegations, and all three defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
