Three Family Members Arrested After Toddler Dies in Arkansas Dog Attack

A heartbreaking incident in North Little Rock, Arkansas, has claimed the life of two-year-old Celeste Jackson. On March 28, the young toddler suffered fatal injuries during a dog attack outside her family’s residence. Security Footage Reveals Pattern of Neglect
As local police investigated the circumstances surrounding Celeste’s death, a review of home security video prompted serious criminal charges against three of her relatives. According to law enforcement officials, the footage recorded on the day of the tragedy shows the two-year-old walking out of the home entirely unattended at approximately 5:03 p.m.
Tragically, no adults in the home checked on the little girl for roughly 40 minutes. It was not until around 5:41 p.m., when the fatal canine attack occurred, that anyone intervened. When officers probed deeper by examining security recordings from the week prior, they discovered a similar concerning pattern: Celeste had been left wandering outside without any adult supervision for more than 20 minutes on a separate occasion.
Three Relatives Arrested and Charged
Following the review of the surveillance media, authorities took three family members into custody on Tuesday. Those facing charges of endangering the welfare of a minor include:
- Earnest Jackson, age 54
- Christina Hart, age 41
- Ma’Kayla Jackson, age 21
During initial court appearances, all three individuals entered pleas of not guilty. Speaking with investigators, 21-year-old Ma’Kayla Jackson stated that she had left Celeste with another household member before falling asleep. Authorities confirmed that the child’s mother was away at her place of employment when the attack occurred.
A witness near the property reported hearing the sounds of children playing in the yard shortly before screams shattered the quiet afternoon, prompting a quick response to the scene.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Proceedings
The animal involved in the fatal assault was removed from the property and placed into the care of Pulaski County Animal Control while officials complete their inquiry into the incident. Meanwhile, the three accused family members remain behind bars in the county jail, with bail set at amounts ranging between $3,000 and $10,000.
